PS 8 Micro-Pods
Kids Orbit is partnering with the PTA of PS 8 to provide supervision, learning assistance, and recreational activities for children in blended learning micro-pods. Micro-pods will meet twice a week in PS 8 family homes or other locations established by the PTA.
Program Overview
-
We anticipate that the program will operate from Thursday, September 24, 2020 - Tuesday, June 22, 2021. Families will register for one trimester at a time.
-
The trimesters will be:
-
Thursday, September 24, 2020 – Friday, December 18, 2020
-
Monday, January 4 – Friday, April 9, 2021
-
Monday, April 12 – Tuesday, June 22, 2021
-
-
Micro-pods will be 4 - 8 children who are members of the same class and team with one staff member. To improve the social and recreational experience, micro-pods may meet up with the other micro-pod from their cohort during the day.
-
Team A micro-pods will meet on Thursday and Friday from 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM.
-
Team B micro-pods will meet on Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM.
-
When a school holiday falls on a micro-pod meeting date, that micro-pod will meet on Wednesday of the same week.
-
Micro-pod leaders will attend weekly remote meetings with classroom teachers to review lessons and materials for the upcoming week, as well as students’ progress and behavior.
Should a micro-pod be required to quarantine Kids Orbit staff will provide assistance remotely. If learning at PS 8 becomes 100% remote for all students, Kids Orbit intends to continue operating this program with modifications suitable to the circumstances, subject to the availability of host families and locations.
